Frequently Asked Questions and Solutions to Common API Issues

Overview

As the Pacejet team works with various partners, we’re learning about some of the most common challenges and frequently asked questions. This section is intended to provide answers that might help you complete your project more quickly and easily.

My shipment is missing from the ConfirmsList list after processing?

Usually this means an ExternalTransactionID was not included with the shipment. See the “Transaction Control” section for more information. In addition, starting with version 2, the behavior for ConfirmsList has changed. The transaction id will display with its most recent status rather than display in each status it was in. For example, it will only show up in the Success transaction list if that is its most recent status rather than also display in the Error list, if at some point it had an error.

Occasionally the Shipments resource will not accept a shipment and my program will receive a 409 or other error in the log?

One of the most common errors causing this behavior occurs when special characters unexpectedly appear in ERP fields like contact name, phone number, or other. During testing, you may not see a problem, but then in piloting or production, new data scenarios cause the integration to fail unexpectedly. See the section “Managing Special Characters in JSON”.

Sometimes an API action may receive a 504, 503, or other resource error and a transaction does not complete processing?

These could be valid issues with the Pacejet platform, your integration software, your ERP, or they could be issues caused by Internet performance lag or other unpredictable environmental issues. Best-practice integrations include automatic retry logic to help buffer occasionally transaction issues which may occur as daily loads vary.

I’m not receiving rates for one of my carriers, what’s going on?

The general behavior of the Pacejet platform is to send data in an unrestrained form to carriers and allow carriers to restrict responses as they see fit. When carriers don’t support shipping to a zip code, don’t offer a shipping service you’ve requested, don’t support containers of the size or weight specified, then rates and services may simply not be returned.

I keep getting 401 UNAUTHORIZED errors when I call the API?

The Pacejet API uses governance limits to protect servers from accidental overload. Integrations will receive 401 errors when governance limits are exceeded, see the “Transaction within Governance Limits” section for more information.

Can I process shipments automatically without seeing the Pacejet user interface?

Yes, if your shipments include all the necessary data or Pacejet plug-in automation can help create that date (e.g. auto packing, auto rate-shopping, etc…), then you can use an action for AutoShip. See “Data Mapping from Systems to Pacejet for Auto Shipping” for more.

What API settings should I manage via configuration in case they change in the future?

See Integration Configuration Settings for the most common API settings that could change at some point during the lifecycle of your integration. You may also wish to consider other settings in your integration as part of your configuration.
