Accurate freight pricing is critical during quoting, order capture, and fulfillment. Pacejet provides flexible configuration in NetSuite so you can quote confidently, commit pricing up front, and ship using the same committed freight price every time.
Business Problem
Shippers often struggle with:
Quoting freight accurately during order entry
Ensuring the quoted freight price is the price customers see on their invoice
Avoiding margin erosion when actual shipment charges differ from the original estimate
Without a consistent configuration, teams may re-rate orders at fulfillment or override pricing manually. This can:
Create surprises for customers at invoice time
Undermine trust and damage loyalty
Lead to lost repeat business
Cause you to lose money on freight
Pacejet Configuration in NetSuite
Pacejet’s standard configuration in NetSuite lets you control how freight is calculated and committed through the full order lifecycle:
-
Quote accurate freight during order capture
Use Pacejet’s rate shopping and expanded carrier options to calculate the best available freight price when the order is first entered. This ensures you are using:Up-to-date carrier rates
The right carrier and service level
Any contracted discounts or surcharges
Commit the shipping price at order capture
With the configuration enabled, the freight amount you calculate during quoting is stored and committed on the order. This becomes the authoritative freight price you promise to the customer.
Always use the committed freight price during fulfillment
During picking, packing, and shipping, Pacejet continues to reference the committed freight price instead of recalculating new charges. This prevents accidental re-rating and keeps the shipping amount consistent from quote to invoice.
The result is a predictable flow:
Quote → Calculate and commit freight
Order capture → Store committed freight as the customer promise
Fulfillment → Ship using the same committed freight price
Why this Matters for Customer Loyalty and Repeat Buying
Configuring Pacejet and NetSuite this way directly supports stronger customer relationships:
No surprises at invoice time – Customers see the same freight price from quote through billing, which builds trust.
Clear expectations – Sales, customer service, and operations are aligned on the freight amount that was promised.
Higher win rates – Better upfront quoting with rate shopping and more carrier options helps you offer competitive freight pricing that customers are happy to accept.
Protected margins – By committing to a carefully calculated price, you reduce the risk of undercharging for freight and eroding margin.
Over time, this consistency encourages customers to return, since they know they can rely on you for transparent and predictable shipping charges.
Using Rate Shopping and Carrier Options to Improve Quoting Accuracy
Pacejet’s quoting capabilities help you commit to freight prices that are both attractive to customers and defensible for your business:
Rate shopping across carriers and services – Compare multiple carriers and service levels in real time to find the right balance of cost and transit time.
Expanded carrier options – Offer customers more choices (for example, economy vs. expedited options) while still keeping control over your costs.
Consistent calculation logic – Apply the same rating logic in quoting and fulfillment so results are predictable.
By combining these tools with the configuration that locks in pricing from order capture through fulfillment, you:
Present realistic, competitive freight quotes
Win more business at the time of quote
Avoid losing money when it is time to ship
Handling Legacy Configuration Methods
Before this standard NetSuite setting was available, some customers used older methods to manage similar behavior, including custom rules installed in customer accounts and other bespoke configuration approaches.
Now that a standard configuration setting in NetSuite is provided and supported by Pacejet, these older methods are no longer supported and should be removed. Removing legacy rules (e.g. Maintain NetSuite Shipping Cost or Honor ERP Price) and customizations helps ensure that:
You rely on a single, consistent approach to managing committed freight pricing
Your configuration is easier to maintain over time
You avoid conflicts between old rules and the new standard behavior
If you are currently using any of the older rule-based methods for this configuration, plan to migrate to the standard NetSuite setting and decommission the legacy rules so all quoting and shipping behavior is aligned.
