Carrier Settings Overview
Carrier Settings lets Pacejet administrators define carrier-specific defaults and special behaviors beyond the basic options configured during initial carrier setup.
Use Carrier Settings when you need to store or control details such as account numbers, package types, reference field mappings, carrier pickup times, and other settings that affect how a carrier is used in shipping workflows. Setting values are entered in XML format and should be inserted after the <Settings> tag but before the </Settings> tag.
Carrier Settings is available to administrative users in Setup > Carrier Settings.
What Carrier Settings Do
Carrier Settings extend the base carrier configuration by allowing administrators to create records that control how a carrier behaves in specific scenarios.
These records can be used to:
Set defaults for carrier-specific values
Apply special handling rules for a carrier
Map shipment data to the values required by a carrier
Support operational differences across sites and facilities.
This makes it possible to maintain one overall configuration strategy while still supporting local shipping requirements where needed.
Scope and Precedence
Carrier Settings records can be created at different levels of scope:
All Sites / All Facilities: A global default used when no more specific Carrier Settings record applies.
Specific Site / Specific Facility: A targeted configuration for a particular operational location.
In practice, administrators can use a global default to define standard carrier behavior and then create additional records for specific Site and Facility combinations when a location needs different values.
A common setup is to create one global Carrier Settings record for the carrier, then add location-specific records only where exceptions are needed.
When to Create a New Carrier Settings Record
Create a new Carrier Settings record when you need to:
Define default shipping values for a carrier
Configure different values for a specific Site and Facility
Support a customer, warehouse, or operational workflow that differs from the default setup
Examples of Carrier Settings
Common examples of Carrier Settings include:
Account numbers
Package types
Reference field mappings
Carrier pickup times
Other carrier-specific defaults or behaviors required by the shipping process
Best Practices
Review the How to Use Carrier Settings with xxxx article for each carrier
Start with a global default record when possible
Add Site and Facility specific records only when a location needs different behavior
Document why a location-specific override exists
Review reference mappings and account values carefully before using them in production
Keep carrier-specific settings aligned with operational procedures at each facility
Summary
Carrier Settings gives Pacejet administrators a flexible way to manage carrier-specific defaults and exceptions. By combining global defaults with Site and Facility specific records, teams can support both standard and location-specific shipping requirements without changing the core carrier setup.
