Overview
Beginning with FedEx connector version 26.4, Pacejet has been updated to align with FedEx's current liability coverage practices by using Declared Value instead of Insurance when processing FedEx shipments.
This change updates terminology and shipment processing behavior to match FedEx standards while maintaining accurate rating and shipment execution.
What Changed?
Historically, Pacejet supported package liability coverage through the Carrier Insurance Shipment Service, which populated the Insurance field for FedEx shipments.
Starting with FedEx 26.4:
The Carrier Insurance Shipment Service has been removed from FedEx configurations.
Pacejet now sends liability coverage information using the Declared Value field.
The Insurance field should remain blank for FedEx shipments.
Rating and shipment processing continue to function normally using the Declared Value provided to FedEx.
Impact on Rate Shopping Between FedEx and UPS
Customers who rate shop between FedEx and UPS may notice differences after upgrading to FedEx 26.4.
Because:
FedEx now uses Declared Value only.
UPS may still be configured to use the Carrier Insurance Shipment Service and the Insurance field.
This can result in inconsistent liability handling during rate shopping comparisons.
Recommended Configuration for UPS Rate Shopping
To maintain consistent rate shopping behavior between FedEx and UPS, an alternative UPS configuration is available.
Required Changes
Remove the Carrier Insurance Shipment Service from the UPS carrier configuration.
Add the following setting to the UPS Carrier Settings:
<UPSDeclaredValueIsInsurance>true</UPSDeclaredValueIsInsurance>With this configuration:
UPS will use the shipment's Declared Value as its insurance value.
FedEx and UPS will both evaluate liability coverage using the Declared Value field.
Rate shopping results will be more consistent across carriers.
Important Note
Removal of the Carrier Insurance Shipment Service from UPS is a restricted configuration change.
If you would like to implement this configuration, please open a support ticket with Descartes Pacejet Support for assistance.
Additional Guidance
