Overview
The FedEx Freight connector now supports guaranteed delivery services as distinct classes of service, instead of shipment services. This gives you tighter control over when guaranteed delivery is requested, helping you avoid unnecessary surcharge costs while still supporting time-critical shipments.
Four guaranteed delivery options are available for FedEx Freight Economy and Priority services. Each option is added in a suppressed state by default, so guarantees are only applied when you explicitly enable them.
Legacy FedEx Freight Connector vs. New Connector FedEx Freight Connector
In the legacy FedEx Freight connector, guaranteed delivery options were implemented as shipment services. This made it easier to trigger guarantees unintentionally, even when they were not required.
In the new connector:
Guaranteed delivery options are registered as classes of service.
Each class of service is created with the Suppressed flag enabled by default.
The connector only requests guaranteed services when the Suppressed flag is turned off.
This approach gives you more predictable control over service selection and costs.
Supported Guaranteed Delivery Classes of Service
The following four classes of service are available:
FedEx Freight® Economy 10:30AM Guaranteed
FedEx Freight® Economy 5:00PM Guaranteed
FedEx Freight® Priority 10:30AM Guaranteed
FedEx Freight® Priority 5:00PM Guaranteed
Each class of service is treated independently and can be enabled or disabled based on your operational needs.
How Suppression Works
Guaranteed freight classes of service are typically configured with the Suppressed flag set to "true" by default.
This approach improves the performance of the FedEx connection by preventing unnecessary guaranteed service requests. For shippers who do not use guaranteed freight services, the connector operates more efficiently because it avoids evaluating and requesting additional service options that are not needed.
When a class of service is suppressed:
The connector does not request the guaranteed service from FedEx Freight.
Shipment rates and labels exclude guaranteed delivery surcharges.
The class of service remains visible for configuration, testing, and audit purposes.
When the Suppressed flag is set to "false":
The connector requests the guaranteed delivery service for eligible shipments.
FedEx Freight applies the corresponding delivery commitment and surcharge.
The selection is recorded on the shipment for reporting and auditing.
By suppressing guaranteed freight services by default, the system avoids unnecessary service calls and improves overall connection efficiency. Guaranteed services are only applied when intentionally enabled and operationally required.
