ShipCentral Integration - Frequently Asked Questions
This FAQ answers common questions about how NetSuite ShipCentral Packing works with Descartes Pacejet.
Are packages set up in NetSuite and Pacejet?
The integration passes package dimensions and weight with each transaction, so package records are not required in Pacejet. However, defining package records can still support Pacejet functionality that depends on Package IDs.
Can I update packages or package contents in Pacejet?
NO. There are multiple warning messages throughout the process to warn users to NEVER update package information or contents in Pacejet. The data in NetSuite ShipCentral is the master data for the packing process. There is no support for a hybrid model, all packing for all shipments must be processed in ShipCentral when this integration feature is active.
Can I combine packing features in ShipCentral and Pacejet?
No. As a general rule you must use packing in ShipCentral or in Pacejet but not in both, and should not make any attempt to mix packing workflows or tools. A consequence of this choice is that some advanced Pacejet packing-related features are no longer available if you are using ShipCentral for packing, this can include packing-related paperwork and labeling. Test all label and paperwork forms carefully to ensure they have the data you need.
Can Pacejet print some packing lists and labels when ShipCentral is used?
Yes. Pacejet can print some packing lists and labels, including forms from Self-Service Shipping Paperwork. However, some data may not be available if it was captured during packing in NetSuite, so certain limitations can apply. Test all label and paperwork forms carefully to ensure they have the data you need.
Can Pacejet generate an SSCC value as part of shipping with ShipCentral?
Yes but for a limited use-case. Pacejet attaches SSCC values to packages during packing as part of the close package function, which is not happening when ShipCentral is packing. However, Pacejet will also add an SSCC to a package after the shipment has been successfully processed with a carrier, if one has not been defined and the SSCC process is configured. Pacejet does NOT currently receive any SSCC values from ShipCentral. Test all label and paperwork forms carefully to ensure they have the data you need.
Can I use Pacejet automated printing with ShipCentral packing?
Yes but for a limited use-case. For example, Pacejet can print container labels automatically while scan-packing is being performed, but this feature is not available when ShipCentral is being used for packing. However, shipment-level paperwork or labels that can be triggered when a shipment is completed can be printed by Pacejet. Test all label and paperwork forms carefully to ensure they have the data you need.
Do shipment updates automatically post to NetSuite?
Yes. After shipping is completed in Pacejet, shipment updates are written back to NetSuite and the item shipment record is updated to a status of Shipped. This supports faster and more accurate downstream billing workflows.
Can I pack together multiple Item Shipments in ShipCentral and ship with Pacejet?
Yes. When you pack together multiple item fulfillments, the containers will be sent to Pacejet for shipping with item contents as normal. Updates will be posted to all of the item shipment with the same information. However, shipment cost/price will only be updated to the first item shipment in a group that are packed together.
Can I create multi-level package structures with ShipCentral?
No. If you need to record multi-level packing structures to manage, for example, items in boxes and boxes on packages, we recommend using a Pacejet packing workflow. There are purpose-built features throughout Pacejet for multi-level packing, scanning, labeling, paperwork, and EDI support. This can be a complex area so we suggest talking with our support or services team.
Can I use Pacejet Self-Service Shipping Paperwork with ShipCentral?
Yes. However, the documents and labels you can produce are limited by data and process. For example, you must use Pacejet packing and NOT ShipCentral packing if you need to use any of the Pacejet GS1 or other compliance or retail templates. Some packing list templates require use of Pacejet packing. Standard Bill of Lading templates can generally be used. We recommend pilot testing the exact packing process, order types, data you will be managing, and templates desired. Also consider print timing since some content must be printed during packing workflows, which Pacejet supports differently that Ship Central.
Can I use the Advanced Shipment Data (ASD) bundle with Pacejet and ShipCentral?
Yes. If an item fulfillment is marked fulfilled and shipped, the ASD bundle can be automatically populated with shipping detail. However, Pacejet can only transmit packing data it has captured and verified. For example, if ShipCentral is capturing or generating data that must be included in the ASN, it may not be in the ASD records. Test all label, paperwork, and ASN processes carefully to ensure they have the data you need.
