Integration Processing with Consolidated Shipments

Integrated Processing Overview

The Pacejet platform supports a feature called consolidation where multiple shipments can be packed together and shipped with a single transaction. Sometimes consolidation is used to save money on shipping since fewer containers will cost less to ship, but other times it is used to improve the customer experience. From an integration perspective, the consolidation functionality operates in a way that insulates ERP and other external systems from the integrated processing.

How Consolidation Works

  1. Use the Shipments endpoint to send in two shipments as shown below.
Make sure to adjust the ExternalTransactionID and TransactionID to two unique values. mceclip0.png

  2. To consolidate the shipments together, from the Workbench, select both shipments, and click the Consolidate Selected Orders icon consolidate_shipment.png.
You'll see the new TransactionID created by the consolidation process.

  3. Rate and process the consolidated shipment using the standard process.
After the consolidated shipment is processed, the standard shipment confirmation process will summarize the key information about the shipment on the Ship Confirmation screen. The Messages section has a Consolidation indicator and highlights the list of shipments by TransactionID that were grouped together in the packing and shipping process.

Consolidated Shipments Management

From an integration perspective, consolidated shipping transactions are managed in a way that allows them to remain somewhat transparent to integrated systems. For example, using the ConfirmsList endpoint will display a list of available processed shipments including the two shipments consolidated; each remains a separate ConfirmsList resource listed under the original TransactionID values.

Update to ERP System

From an update perspective, the ShipmentConfirms resource can be used to retrieve data for both shipping transactions to update the ERP system. Because the separation of TransactionIDs is maintained, the same standard processing logic should perform without alteration.

Additional Options for Viewing the Process

As another way to view the process, the Search Shipments page displays the shipments separately under the individual TransactionIDs and the confirmations back to Pacejet are also processed the same as for individual shipments.

Updating Process in Pacejet

One important difference in the update processing is that Pacejet will automatically allocate freight costs to only one of the shipments. By default, 100% of the cost and price are allocated to the first shipment but there are configuration settings to permit users to change this allocation to use other methods (for example, allocate by item value, allocate evenly, etc.). This means that each shipment will have the same tracking numbers, tracking links, and other details but will have different freight costs, prices, and list prices.
