Overview
Sometimes different warehouse fulfillment workflows can be best optimized by scanning unique attributes attached to one or more shipments. For example, a distributed picking workflow might place inventory in multiple "totes", requiring users to scan any number of a list of fixed / reusable tote ID's to pack and ship a complete order. Another example might be the use of a unique ID for a set of orders, allowing users to scan one id to identify the set when picked, so they can be consolidated and shipped in packing. The Custom Quick Search rule enables administrators to search for attributes within custom fields.
How To Use Custom Quick Search
Once the rule is installed, users can access the Custom Quick Search feature with the steps below:
Press Z on your keyboard or scan the Z code with your scan gun.
Using your keyboard or a scan gun, enter the desired value within the textbox.
Click Search.
You may not need to click Search if you are using a scan gun.
Prerequisites for This Feature
The following prerequisites must be met to use this solution:
Custom Field = Integrations using this feature will need support to transmit custom fields to Pacejet with a custom name (e.g. "customfield_tote_number") which can be setup in Pacejet.
Key Capabilities of This Feature
The following details provide a summary of key features supported by this solution. If a feature is not listed here, please assume that it is not supported.
Install By Rule = Installing the rule "Add Custom Quick Search" allows any Pacejet administrator to add their own scan by custom field support.
Custom Fields = Supports scanning by any custom field at the shipment-level installed via rule.
Multiple Values = Multiple values of a custom field can be transmitted as part of an integration and all values will be available for scanning in Pacejet.
F.A.Q.
Q: What version of Pacejet has this feature?
A: Pacejet versions 20.4 and above will have this feature available for activation via a license key.
Q: Can the rule be installed multiple times?
A: Yes. Installing the rule multiple times will enable different custom fields to be used for scanning simultaneously.
Q: Can I scan attributes at the product or package level?
A: No. This feature supports scanning custom fields at the shipment level only.
Q: Does this feature slow down performance?
A: Yes. Adding new scan values introduces overhead to search across all shipments for new values. Adding a small number should not be very noticeable, adding many should be avoided.
Q: Can a custom scan field have multiple values?
A: Yes. If a list of values is sent in a transaction with the same custom field name, each will be stored as an attribute of the shipment in Pacejet and is available for scanning.
Q: What happens if multiple shipments match a scan?
A: When a user scans a value and only one shipment matches, the Rate & Ship page is brought up with that shipment. If multiple shipments match, the user is taken to the Shipping Workbench (where features like consolidation are available).
