How to Hold Shipments with Failed Address Validation

Use this setup to correct addresses automatically and still catch the shipments that need a person to review them. When an address is too far off to correct, or the address validation service is unavailable, Pacejet tags the shipment "AV-Failure" (Address Validation Failure). A shipment rule then puts any shipment with that tag on hold until someone fixes the address and releases the hold.

For the outcome tags and examples of addresses that fail validation, see Address Validation Examples.

Before You Start

Address Validation Settings

  1. From the Setup menu, click Application Settings, then click Address Validation.

  2. Select the Address Validation Enabled checkbox.

  3. Set Address Correction Default Method to Auto Correct.

  4. Click Save.

Hold Rule Setup

  1. From the Setup menu, click Shipment Rules.

  2. Install the Hold Shipment Based On Tag rule template.

  3. Enter an Installed Rule Name and Installed Rule Description, for example Hold if AV-Failure tag is present.

  4. In Tag Name, enter AV-Failure.

  5. Turn on Enabled and click Save.

Install Rules for Other Outcomes

There are rule options for rule installations for automatic, manual, and service errors.

Install a second copy of the Hold Shipment Based On Tag rule with the tag AV-Error - this can happen if the AV service fails to work during processing, or, optionally, install a second copy of this rule with the tag AV-Review - this can happen if AV is set to manual and validation fails.

Shipment Hold Behavior

When a ship-to address fails validation, Pacejet adds the AV-Failure tag to the shipment. If the tag is present, users can correct the address, remove the tag, and ship as normal.

If someone tries to ship while the tag is still present, Pacejet places the shipment on hold and shows the message "Shipment on hold due to: Shipment is tagged with AV-Failure".

Address Correction

  1. On the Rate & Ship screen, open the shipment details section and click Verify Address.

  2. Review the Return Message. A failed address shows "Not Verified - Address Error".

  3. Correct the fields under Current Address and click Verify Address again.

  4. When the Suggested Address shows the corrected address, click Accept Changes.

Hold Release and Shipping

  1. On the Shipment section heading bar, click the Hold status link.

  2. In the Holds window, click the hold name, "Shipment is tagged with AV-Failure".

  3. In the View/Confirm Hold window, select Acknowledged and click Save.

  4. Click Ship to process the shipment.
