Overview
Pacejet supports FedEx Freight Direct services using class-based service mapping through the FedEx Freight API. This enhancement gives you more control over when Freight Direct services are requested, while aligning behavior with LTLSelect.com.
Freight Direct services are represented as classes of service and are only used when specific destination shipment services are selected, and the class of service is enabled. This prevents unintended usage while preserving access to premium delivery options when they are truly required.
This support for FedEx Freight Direct services enhances the FedEx Freight connector in Descartes Pacejet™ with support for Freight Direct Priority and Economy services, including multiple service variants.
Key features include:
Freight Direct services are implemented as classes of service.
Classes are created in a suppressed state by default.
Freight Direct services are requested dynamically at runtime based on destination shipment services.
Behavior aligns with FedEx Freight Direct logic used in LTLSelect.com.
Supported FedEx Freight Direct classes of service
The following Freight Direct classes of service are available:
Priority
FedEx Freight Direct® Priority Basic
FedEx Freight Direct® Priority Basic by Appointment
FedEx Freight Direct® Priority Standard
FedEx Freight Direct® Priority Premium
Economy
FedEx Freight Direct® Economy Basic
FedEx Freight Direct® Economy Basic by Appointment
FedEx Freight Direct® Economy Standard
FedEx Freight Direct® Economy Premium
Each class of service is evaluated independently and can be enabled or disabled based on your shipping requirements.
How Class-based Suppression Works
All Freight Direct classes of service are inserted with the Suppressed flag set to "true" by default.
This design improves the overall performance of the FedEx connection. For shippers who never use freight services and only ship parcel, the connection operates faster because unnecessary Freight Direct service calls are not evaluated.
When a class of service is suppressed:
Pacejet does not request FedEx Freight Direct services.
Standard FedEx Freight LTL services are used instead.
No Freight Direct accessorial pricing or logic is applied.
When the Suppressed flag is set to "false":
Pacejet evaluates the shipment at runtime.
Freight Direct services are requested only when destination shipment services trigger eligibility.
The selected class of service is recorded on the shipment for visibility and auditing.
By suppressing Freight Direct classes by default, the system avoids unnecessary service calls and improves connection efficiency. Freight Direct services are only applied when intentionally enabled and operationally required.
Shipment Service Triggers at Destination
Freight Direct services are requested only when all of the following conditions are met:
The Freight Direct Class of Service is not suppressed.
-
The shipment destination includes one or more of the following shipment services:
Call for Appointment
Lift Gate
Residential Delivery
If none of these destination services are selected, Freight Direct services are not requested, even if the class of service is enabled.
Pickup-based Triggers
Pickup location triggers are not supported in this release.
The underlying architecture is designed to support pickup-based Freight Direct logic in the future, but this functionality is not active in the current phase.
