Freight Density

Overview

Freight Density, the amount of space an item occupies in relation to its shipping weight, is used to determine how much it costs to ship products. Knowing Freight Density helps shippers prevent shipping cost adjustments and it is critical in identifying the correct Freight Classification for each package shipped.

With this new licensed feature, Freight Density, 3G Pacejet Shipping customer administrators can access a configurable Freight Density Calculation to automate the selection of package Classification based on Freight Density to provide more accurate LTL rates.

New Freight Density User Interface

The new User Interface (UI) allows administrators to enable or disable Freight Density to use the Product Code. The About section provides instructional videos about using and configuring Freight Density.

Classification UI Updates

On the Classification UI, users can click the paperclip icon ( Paperclip.png) to see if the Product Code has been selected for Freight Density. The following text will be displayed when the Product Code has been selected for Freight Density: "Freight Density is configured for this Product Code."

When Product Code is used for Freight Density classification, users cannot create a new record for the Product Code.
If the Product Code is attached to a commodity, that message is displayed below the "Freight Density is configured" message.

Consolidation Support for Freight Density

Shippers with Freight Density enabled may need to consolidate multiple shipments into a single delivery order but still have Freight Density calculated for the shipment. When multiple shipments are consolidated into a single delivery order, the Freight Density must be recalculated, using the existing calculation settings.

Freight Density will be applied to consolidated shipments when the Consolidate button is pressed, provided the Calculate Density when Save or Ship checkbox is enabled on the Freight Density Configuration page.

New Freight Density Shipment Rule

A new shipment rule has been added that performs Freight Density functionality. This new rule uses industry-standard calculation to determine the correct classification accurately and sets those classifications based on the new Freight Density screen checkboxes.
