Lot Number Capture Overview
Shipping products with lot numbers sometimes requires the ability to capture the lot numbers associated with the items. Reports that display lot numbers tell us where the items containing the specific lot numbers were shipped.
Lot Capturing takes place as a real-time step during the packing process. When you scan or enter a lot number (for an item identified as being Lot-Tracked), the experience is similar to the Serial Number tracking. Lot Capture has been implemented using the Is Lot Tracked option in the Extended tab of the Edit Product screen.
Lot Capturing is only available in Scan and Pack Essentials and Scan and Pack Enterprise.
Report
The lot numbers are accessed via a Bulk Export Report (Report - Lot Capture and Serial Number Export) that lists all shipments and quantities that include any products matching the specified lot number.
Limitations
The Lot Capture is being developed in a phased approach. Phase one (this phase) is currently targeted for small retail shipments and has some limitations.
No Lot Quantity prompting.
Single Lot Number is assumed when quantities greater than one are specified.
2D scanning is not supported in this release (capturing multiple data fields, including item, lot, quantity, and other data).
No mixed Serial/Lotted items.
Self-pack is not supported (in other words, when Lot-Tracked or Serialized Items are selected, Self Pack cannot be selected).
Master Pack is not supported (in other words, Lot-Tracked and Serialized Items cannot be included in Master Pack).
Scan and Pack Cloning is not supported.
As with the Serial Number capturing, containers that contain one or more Lot Captured items cannot be cloned. No lot number imports/exports to/ from ERP.
API Updates
When multiple quantities of a specific item are picked/packed, some items will be from the same lot, while others of the same type will be from a different one.
Example: An order includes 40 packages of loose-leaf tea. Seventeen are from lot 22180220601, and the remaining 23 are from lot 22180220603.
The API provides the Lot Number and quantity shipped with that lot number.
ASD Bundle Updates
ASD handles Lot Numbers similarly to how serial numbers are handled. We store the quantity shipped for each Lot Number. Refer to the example in the API Updates section above.
ASD records are:
