Connection Timeout
When you are using the API Rates Endpoint to call for rates, and you want to control how long you wait for the responses from all the carriers, you have the option for a global timeout for all carriers to specify the Connection Time Out for rates per request as well as a timeout per transaction.
The ConnectionTimeout setting controls the timeout on both Rate & Ship screen and controls the rates Endpoint on the API. This setting has a 30-second timeout by default. This setting indicates the number of seconds you want to allow for the returned rates. The value is expressed in seconds.
To make any changes to your ConnectionTimeout, reach out to your Pacejet Account Manager.
RatingEndPointConnectionTimeout and ConnectionTimeout
Some carriers do not respond within 30 seconds. On the Rate & Ship screen, instead of waiting for your slowest carrier to respond, you can use two additional settings: one to set a global timeout (RatingEndpointConnectionTimeout) for the Rates endpoint (e-commerce) and one to control the timeout per request (ConnectionTimeout).
RatingEndpointConnectionTimeout - This controls the Rates Endpoint if that is your choice. This can be found in Pacejet's Application Settings and is primarily used to have a lower timeout for your eCommerce solution. This setting does not impact the Rate & Ship screen. If this field is left blank, the timeout is determined by the Connection Timeout.
ConnectionTimeout - You can pass a field into the API request ConnectionTimeout to control timeout on a per request basis. This is primarily used for calls for which you want to set a lower threshold that you do not want to set globally.
- This new setting only applies to requests for rates from APIs V3.0 (and higher). Normal quoting and shipping in Pacejet are not affected by this
setting.
- If you set this at 10 seconds, the return/total time will be slightly longer than 10 seconds. For example, the time to send the rate request to the
carrier is not included in the 10 seconds. In other words, you may want to set this time slightly lower.
IMPORTANT! By using this setting, you may not get all of your carrier results. For example, if a carrier has a longer response time than the timeout you designated, you will not get the rate for that carrier.
