Installing and Configuring the Pacejet Scales Service

Overview

This article provides the steps to uninstall the current Pacejet Scale Service, install and configure the new Pacejet Scales Service, and provides the Scales Service Installation file to download. Click here for quick access to the Scale Service Installation file.

If you do not have Windows Administrator rights on the PC, this install may fail. We recommend that you have someone with Windows Administrator rights perform the steps in this document.


If you currently have Pacejet Scales Service installed, you must uninstall the current Pacejet Scales Service first; if this is a first-time installation of the Pacejet Scale Service, disregard the steps for uninstalling the Pacejet Scales Service.

Uninstalling the Pacejet Scales Service

  1. From your computer's (PC) taskbar, click the search icon (Search.png).

  2. Type "Pacejet scale".

    • Pacejet displays the Pacejet Scale Service Configuration. If the Pacejet Scale Service Configuration is not displayed, this may mean that you are using an older version of Pacejet Scale Service. Verify that you are using an older version by doing teh following.

      1. From the main menu, click Setup, Workstations, and then click Printers & Scales.

      2. Click the All Scales tab. If your scale is configured using the URL field, you can skip the Uninstall section of this article. Continue with the Install section of this article: Installing and Configuring the Pacejet Scales Service.

  3. Click Uninstall.

    Your PC displays the Control Panel's Programs and Features.

  4. In the upper-right corner, in the Search field text box, type "Pacejet scale".

  5. Click Pacejet Scale Service, and then click Uninstall.

  6. After the uninstall completes, you'll receive a message letting you know that the uninstall is complete and you can close the Programs and Features screen.

  7. Continue with Installing and Configuring the Pacejet Scales Service.

Installing and Configuring the Pacejet Scales Service

When installing the Pacejet Scales Service, you will find some required installation information in Pacejet's Help section. The following items can be obtained from the Help section:

  • Location Name

  • API License key

  1. In Pacejet, click Help, and then click About.

      1. Note the Location Name.

      2. In the API License Key field, click the clipboard ( clipboard.png ) to copy the API License Key to your PC's clipboard.
        If Websockets has a message in the red text regarding calling Pacejet support, please disregard it at this time; this message is only for printing configuration.

  2. Download the Pacejet Scale Service Install file (linked below).

  3. When the download completes, navigate to the download location and double-click PacejetScaleServiceInstall.msi to start the install.
    This file has a version number at the end of the file name.
    Your PC displays a "Windows protected your PC screen".

  4. Click More Info, and then click Run anyway.

    Pacejet displays the Welcome to Pacejet Scale Service Setup Wizard screen.

  5. Click Next.
    Pacejet displays the Destination Folder screen.

  6. At the Destination Folder screen, click Next (this installs the Pacejet Scales Service into the default folder). This is Pacejet's recommended approach.

  7. For this step, you'll need the information you noted and copied from step 1.
    At the Pacejet Portal Name screen, do the following:

    1. In the Portal Name field, enter your Location Name from step 1.

    2. In the Pacejet API License Key field, paste your API license key. (This is the key you copied from the Help screen in step 1.)

    3. Click Validate Portal Name and Licenses to validate the information you added.
      If the validation fails, double-check the Portal Name and API License key are correct and complete, and then try the validation again. If the validation continues to fail, reach out to Pacejet Support.

  8. Click Next.
    Pacejet displays the Ready to install Pacejet Scale Service screen.

  9. Click Install.
    After the installation completes, Pacejet displays the Completed Scale Service Setup Wizard screen.

  10. Click Finish.
    Pacejet displays the Pacejet Scale Configuration and Testing screen and populates the Location, API License Key, and Scale System Name.

  11. At the Pacejet Scale Configuration and Testing screen, begin the configuration steps:

    1. Click the Ping for USB devices ( ping.png )button.
      Pacejet populates the screen with all USB devices (for example, mouse, keyboard, printers, scales, etc.)

    2. Place a test item on your connected scale.

    3. To identify which USB device is the attached scale, click Call Get Weight for All Devices.

    4. Check the box next to the Vendor ID / Product ID for the scale you are using. This is the Vendor ID /Product ID in the grid with the valid weight.

    5. Click Save.

    6. Click the Measure icon (scale.png ) to verify that the returned weight (on the Configuration screen) matches the weight on the scale, and do one of the following:

      • If the scale weight matches the weight on the Configuration screen, leave the Multiplier field with a value of 1.
        1 is the default, as well as the recommended multiplier.

      • If the scale weight does not match the weight listed on the Configuration screen, in the Multiplier field, enter the multiplier required by the scale and then click Save.

    7. Click the Start Scale Service icon ( start_scale_service.png ).

    8. In the Scale System Name field, click the clipboard at the end of the field. (This will be used in the Adding a Pacejet Scale Device to the Workstation steps.)

    9. Continue with the steps for Updating/Adding a Pacejet Scale Device.


Updating/Adding a Pacejet Scale Device

If you are updating an existing Pacejet Scale device to use the new Scale Connector Service, complete the steps for Updating an Existing Pacejet Scale Device .

If you are adding a new Pacejet Scale device, complete the steps for Adding a Pacejet Scale Device to the Workstation.


Updating an Existing Pacejet Scale Device

The steps below provide the instructions for updating a previously installed and configured scale in Pacejet to use the new Pacejet Scale Connector Service.

  1. From the main menu, click Setup and then click Workstations, Printers & Scales.
    Pacejet opens the Assets screen.

  2. Click All Scales.

  3. In the Scale System Name field, paste the Scale System Name that you copied to the clipboard (Installing and Configuring the Pacejet Scale Service, step 11, sub-step 8).

  4. The URL and End Point Address fields must be empty. If there is any information in either of these fields, delete it.

  5. Click Save Changes.

  6. Click Test.


Adding a Pacejet Scale Device to the Workstation

The steps below provide the instructions on adding a locally connected USB scale device into the Workstation setup within the Pacejet UI.

  1. From the main menu, click Setup and then click Workstations, Printers & Scales.
    Pacejet opens the Assets screen.

  2. From the Assets screen, click the All Scales tab, then click Add Scale.
    Pacejet opens the Add Scale screen.

    1. In the Scale Name field, enter a descriptive name.

    2. The URL and End Point Address fields must be blank.
      IMPORTANT! Have a URL in either URL or End Point Address will cause the connection to the scale to fail.

      In a future release, URL and End Point Address will not be included in the User Interface (UI).

    3. In the Scale System Name field, paste the Scale System Name that you copied to the clipboard (Installing and Configuring the Pacejet Scale Service, step 11, sub-step 8).

    4. Click Save.

    5. On the Assets screen, click All Scales and verify that no URL or End Point Address exists for any scales.

    6. Continue with the steps for Associating the Scale with the Workstation.


Associating the Scale Device with the Workstation

  1. On the Assets screen, click the All Workstations tab.

  2. Click to select your workstation.

  3. Click the Scale tab.

  4. Select the radio button for your scale.

  5. Click Save.

Adding the Pacejet Scale Device to Additional Locations

If you have more than one Pacejet location that needs to share the same scale, follow the steps below. (For example, your production environment and a sandbox)

  1. In Pacejet, click Help, and then click About.

  2. Click the clipboard icon ( clipboard.png ) to copy the API License key
    Note the Location Name.

  3. From the Scale Configuration and Testing Utility's toolbar, click the A to enter the additional location and click the New Location icon.

  4. In the Location field, type your location (you noted this information by clicking Help, and then About).

  5. In the API License field, paste the API license key for this location.

  6. Click Save.

  7. In the Scale System Name field, click the clipboard at the end of the field. (This will be used in the Adding a Pacejet Scale Device to the Workstation steps.

  8. Continue with the steps for Updating/Adding a Pacejet Scale Device.


Troubleshooting a Scale Device not Connecting

Review the items listed below if the scale is not connecting to the Pacejet UI.

  • Verify that the scale is directly attached to your workstation (with no USB adapters) using drivers and/or utility software provided by the scale manufacturer.

  • Verify that the Pacejet Scale Service has started.

    1. From your PC's taskbar, click search ( Search.png ).

    2. Type "Pacejet Scale service configuration" and press Enter.

    3. On the Pacejet Scale Configuration and Testing screen, click the Start Scale Service icon ( start_scale_service.png ).

  • On the Assets screen, in the All Scales tab, verify that the following fields are empty:

    • URL

    • Endpoint Address

The Pacejet support team does not provide troubleshooting or support for connecting scales to a workstation.
