Address Validation Overview
Before using Address Validation, refer to Address Validation - Setup.
There are two options for address validation:
Auto Correct (Default): The suggested address returned from the carrier will be used for the Ship To address.
Manual: Validation will still run, but no changes will be made until the user accepts changes. Users can accept the changes once they are notified via the Shipment Tag status indicator.
Trace Logs
Trace logs displayed on the Rate and Ship screen (Shipment Tab of the Show Trace window) display the details, including address corrections that occurred and the user or process responsible for the corrections. The text is the same for both Manual and Auto-Correct scenarios. A log is entered with an event date/time stamp for each entry.
Address-Verified Shipment Tags
Shipment tags display for each shipment and indicate whether an address has passed validation. Tags display post-import-only regardless of the Address Correction Method chosen and will depend on the status returned from the API.
Validating Addresses on the Rate & Ship Screen
Follow the steps below to validate the Ship To address:
-
From the Rate & Ship screen, determine if shipment tags are displayed showing the Address Validation (AV) Status and if the AV-Review or AV-Failure tags are displayed.
(If Auto Correct is selected, you may see tag "AV-Failure". If Manual is selected, you may see tags "AV-Review")If yes, go to step 2.
If no, address validation is not needed for this shipment.
If the AddressVerify license has not been enabled, no shipment tags will be displayed showing the AV status.
In the Ship To section, click Verify Address.
If you plan to use the address shown in the Suggested Address section, click Accept Changes.
- Accepting changes updates the Ship To address on the Rate & Ship screen.
- It does not add or remove any tags.
