Scan and Pack

Overview

Pacejet Supports a contents-detail packing process to capture and record items shipping in specific boxes, pallets, or other containers. Similar to a grocery store checkout, Scan and Pack allows you to quickly scan each item as it is packed into a container, validate the item is part of the original order, and record the item as being shipped in the specific container for automated packing lists and easier export paperwork.

Key Features

A core feature of Pacejet Scan and Pack is the integration with ERP fulfillment data so that scanning processes are validating physical packing activities with order data in your ERP system.

Additional features include:

  • Scanning boxes and other barcodes to create container records without using the mouse or keyboard.

  • Shortcuts are supported so users can scan codes to capture a container weight, close containers, or perform other functions without touching a keyboard or mouse.
One convenient way to manage this is to add a barcode scan card to your shipping workstation with the key shortcuts that are used most frequently in the scan pack process.

  • A built-in help function provides handy scan shortcuts which can be used at shipping workstations or as a foundation for your own shortcuts on documents.

Interface and Sounds

When the system first displays the scanning screen, an area on the left-hand side of the screen labeled Unpacked Items lists all the items in the current order. The right-hand side of the screen will start listing containers and items as items are scanned and packed into shipping containers.

The user interface is designed to operate very quickly and provide both audio and visual feedback during packing. As items are scanned into boxes or onto pallets, audible confirmation and error sounds immediately inform you of incorrect items or other mistakes. Highly visible green (Go) and red (Stop) screen visuals with on-screen messages help you quickly react to and resolve error conditions while so that you can keep moving efficiently. If you receive the red screen, the system highlights the currently scanned-in value so that you scan a different value to correct the problem.

The large, uncluttered layout of the screen and multiple feedback methods mean you can run tethered or blue-tooth scanners. In other words, you do not have constantly view the screen as items are verified and recorded.

In setup, you may also wish to have speakers available on the shipping workstation PC so that audio confirmation sounds can be heard during the packing process. This is optional but it will help you move quickly without the need to look at the workstation screen to confirm validation of items.

Creating a Scan Sheet

Creating a Scan Sheet from Pacejet's Barcode Shortcuts

Scan sheets with the barcodes can be a convenient tool to consider creating as part of your scan pack process. A scan sheet in your shipping workstation allows you to simply scan these barcodes to perform actions instead of using the mouse or keyboard in the application.

You can create your a scan sheet by doing the following:

  1. From the packing screen, click the Barcode Shortcuts.

Creating Your Own Scan Sheets

If you do not have the barcode font, you can create your own scan sheets by downloading the font (for use in Microsoft Word®) to create your scan sheets, stickers, or other branded values.

  1. Search the Internet for "3 of 9 font" and download the free font.

  2. Use a value with leading and trailing asterisks (Ex. *VALUE*) as the barcoded value for scanning.

- Word will automatically include the carriage return when you barcode the value.
- For single character values, highlight that single character and set it as an alternate, non-barcode font for scanning to work properly.

Using Scan and Pack

  1. Activate the scan and Pack screen by doing one of the following:

      • Press Z to enter an order number. This opens the Rate & Ship page. Open the Package Information section, and then click the barcode icon (bar_code_icon.jpg).

      • Start a scan pack process by pressing the E shortcut key.

      • Scan a barcode setup with the shortcut key.
When you activate the Scan and Pack function, the system displays a new screen overlaying the current Rate & Ship screen, and the system enters packing mode.

  2. Scan a box type to add a container or select a container from the Scan Container drop-down menu.
You can also create boxes with dimensions on-the-fly.

  3. Start scanning items into the container.
As valid items are scanned, the screen background will flash green, and a positive confirmation tone will sound.

  4. Enter the container weight by scanning the code WEIGH SELECTED CONTAINER to automatically read the weight on an attached electronic scale. Refer to your shortcuts in your shipping workstation.

  5. After all items are scanned into all shipping containers, and all weights are captured, you can scan FINISH AND CLOSED OR click Done.
The main scan pack screen closes and the Package Information area will update to show the container list. Other packing functions in this area or the scan pack area can be used to edit any details if necessary.
