Classification - How to set up

Steps

To access the Classification List, navigate to Lists, and then click Classifications. This list populates the Classification drop-down in the Package Information section.

Classifications consist of four fields: Tariff Code, Product Code, Product Sub Code, Description, and Rate Class.

Populate the Classification fields based on the guidelines below. Any deviation from this setup will mean the Classifications will not work and rating can be impacted negatively as a result.

  • Tariff Code

    • Enter NMFC.

  • Product Code

    • Enter the six (6) digit numeric value.

      • Note: The Classification drop-down in the Package Information section will be sorted by the Product Code.

  • Product Sub Code

    • If applicable, enter the two (2) digit numeric value.

      • Note: A sub code does not always apply, so blank is valid.

      • If a sub code exists, it should be 2 digits with a leading 0 if needed.

  • Description

    • Enter the text description that goes along with your code.

      • Note: This is not a description you’ve made for your products.

      • This is the description associated with the NMFC.

  • Rate Class

    • Select the applicable value from the drop-down.

      • Note: The rate class appears on the Bill of Lading along with the NMFC. It is also used by the carrier to determine the rate they will charge for your freight.
