Purpose
In high‑volume shipping environments, it is common for ERP or WMS systems to send updates to an order while warehouse teams are actively rating, packing, and shipping. The Rate Ship Save Override application setting controls how Pacejet handles those in‑progress changes, either enforcing refreshed data from the ERP or preserving the work already underway in the warehouse. This article explains how the setting works in its supported modes (Default and Override), what happens to shipments when updates arrive mid‑process, and how upcoming changes to this option may affect your fulfillment workflows.
Controlling Updates for Inprocess Shipments: Blocking and/or Applying
Use this article together with Blocking Shipment Updates for Fulfillment Control to decide how shipment changes should be handled in your environment. The tag‑based lock in that article gives warehouse teams a precise way to block inbound updates for specific shipments, while the Rate Ship Save Override setting described here governs how Pacejet applies or ignores updates during normal rating and shipping activity. By understanding both options, you can combine global behavior (Default vs. Override) with targeted change lock tags to create a control strategy that fits your order volume, integration patterns, and fulfillment risk tolerance.
About The Rate Ship Save Override Application Setting
Pacejet provides an application setting called Rate Ship Save Override to give administrators some control over how and when ERP integration updates are applied during shipment processing.
Accessing the Rate Ship Save Override Setting
To access the Rate Ship Save Override Setting:
From the main menu, click Setup.
Click Application Settings.
Enter "RateShipSaveOverride" in the search box to locate this setting in your Pacejet portal.
Default and Override Options
Previously, there were three options available for this setting:
Default
Overview
Prompt
Now, there are two settings: Default and Override.
For existing customers using the Prompt setting, the setting will be changed to Default.
With the Default setting active, Pacejet warns users with a "Record Has Been Modified" message and forces a screen refresh if an ERP sends an update during shipment processing.
With the Override setting active, Pacejet allows users to complete processing of a shipment that is in-progress and overwrite the details that may have been received from integration updates.
When Rate Ship Save Override is Set to Default
Setting the RateShipSaveOverride application setting to Default allows users to open and process shipments with the added assurance that updates received will be automatically applied, users will be notified, and users must restart fulfillment with new information transmitted from an ERP or WMS. While the advantage of this configuration is that updates are always used, the drawback is that data may be lost from in-process fulfillments that a user may already be working to ship.
To see how this works / to transmit shipments to Pacejet in the same way an ERP would send them:
From the main menu, click Tools, API, and then Samples.
Example
For this example, we'll transmit a shipment to Pacejet using the Shipments.PUT action where one of our items has a quantity of two, with an item numbered IPA11. We'll open the shipment on the Rate and Ship page on one tab in our browser, send a shipment update in the background via the API from another browser tab, and then complete processing of the shipment on the original tab. We will confirm that the updates via the API were ignored.
Example Steps
Follow the steps below to walk through the example:
From the main menu, click Setup, and then click Application Settings.
In the Search box type "RateShipSaveOverride".
-
Note the setting for Rate Ship Save Override and do one of the following:
If the setting is Default, leave it as-is.
If the setting is not Default, change it to Default and click Save.
Open the API samples page and send a shipment with the Shipments.Put method.
Note the value for quantity of an item so we can easily verify behavior.
IMPORTANT! Do not close this tab since we will return to this tab to send in an update after the next step.Open a new tab in Pacejet.
Open another tab in Pacejet and go to the Workbench.
Open the sample order sent in via the previous step on the Rate & Ship page.
Run rating for the shipment.
Open the Package Details section and observe that the IPA11 item has a quantity of 2, as submitted in the original order.
This order is in the process of being fulfilled, since we have opened it on the Rate & Ship page and are rating or packing or performing other activities.
IMPORTANT! Do not close this tab yet, since we will return here to process our sample order after the next step.Return to the tab we had previously opened to the API samples page.
Change the quantity on our item to "2" from the "8" of the original shipment so we can easily see the processing results.
Click Run It to send this changed shipment to Pacejet.
Return to the tab we had open to the Rate & Ship page
Run rating and attempt to process the shipment.
Because an update to this shipment has been received while this shipment was being processed, the update has been applied and the user is required to reload the new transaction data. Reloading the transaction will result in the loss of any data that has been changed on the open transaction (e.g. packing, entry of values, etc.).
When Rate Ship Save Override is Set to Override
Setting the RateShipSaveOverride application setting switch to "Override" allows users to open and process shipments without worrying about updates changing the data in the middle of processing. After a user begins processing a shipment, they can complete processing and will not be interrupted by ERP updates. ERP updates sent into the API will be ignored while users complete processing a shipment.
Example
To see how this works, we can use the API Samples page to transmit shipments to Pacejet in the same way an ERP would send them. For this example, we'll transmit a shipment to Pacejet using the Shipments.PUT action where one of our items has a quantity of 2 for an item numbered IPA11. We'll open the shipment on the Rate and Ship page on one tab in our browser, send a shipment update in the background via the API from another browser tab, and then complete processing of the shipment on the original tab. We'll then confirm that the updates via the API were ignored.
Example Steps
From the main menu, click Setup, and then click Application Settings.
In the Search box, type "RateShipSaveOverride" and locate the setting in the Rating area of application settings.
Confirm or change the "Rate Ship Save Override" setting to a value of "Override" and click save to apply.
In the Search box type "RateShipSaveOverride".
-
Note the setting for Rate Ship Save Override and do one of the following:
If the setting is Override, leave it as-is.
If the setting is not Override, change it to Default and click Save.
Open the API Samples page.
Send a shipment with the Shipments.Put method.
Note the value for quantity of an item so we can easily verify behavior.
IMPORTANT! Do not close this tab since we will return to this tab to send in an update after the next step.Open another tab in Pacejet and go to the Workbench.
Open the shipment transmitted to Pacejet on the Rate & Ship page in the previous step.
Click Rate Shipment to view rates then scroll down and open the package details area and confirm the quantity of our example item for verification.
IMPORTANT! Do not close this tab since we will return to finish processing this shipment after the next step.Return to the tab we had previously open to the samples page. Change the quantity on our item to 8 from the 2 of the original shipment so we can easily see the processing results.
Click Run It to send this changed shipment to Pacejet.
Return to the previous tab we had open on the Rate & Ship page.
Complete updating the open order, rate it, and ship it.
You'll see a confirmation page similar to the one shown below.Click S3P - My Custom Packing List or another document you may have setup for your shipments to review the details of the completed shipment.
As you can see from this example, the shipment update was ignored after initial processing had begun. The quantity of "2" we see in the packing list is from the shipment we opened on the Rate & Ship page and not the value of "8" sent in via an update after we began processing the fulfillment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Here are a few frequently asked questions with answers for common areas of concern.
What does the Rate Ship Save Override setting control?
It determines whether Pacejet applies ERP/WMS updates to a shipment that is already being rated, packed, or shipped, or instead lets the warehouse user finish with the in‑progress data they started with.-
What is the difference between the Default and Override options?
In Default, Pacejet applies inbound ERP updates to in‑progress shipments, forces a refresh, and users must restart fulfillment with the new data (potentially losing in‑progress packing changes).
In Override, Pacejet ignores inbound updates while a shipment is being processed so users can complete fulfillment without interruption, even if that means overwriting newer ERP data.
What happens to a shipment if an ERP update arrives while I’m rating or packing in Default mode?
Pacejet applies the update, displays a “Record Has Been Modified” warning, and requires you to reload the shipment.
Any unsaved work (such as packing details or manual edits) on the open transaction is lost when you reload. What happens to a shipment if an ERP update arrives while I’m rating or packing in Override mode?
Pacejet ignores the inbound update for that in‑process shipment. You can complete rating, packing, and shipping without being forced to reload. The final shipment reflects the values that were present when you opened it on the Rate & Ship page—not the later ERP update. Why did the Prompt option go away?
The Prompt choice is being retired to simplify behavior and reduce user confusion. Going forward, only Default (always apply updates and force refresh) and Override (protect in‑process work from updates) will be supported. Any existing environments using Prompt will be reset to Default.-
How do I choose between Default and Override for my environment?
Use Default if you prioritize keeping shipments fully synchronized with ERP/WMS data at all times, even if that interrupts warehouse work.
Use Override if you prioritize uninterrupted packing and shipping, accepting that in‑progress work may overwrite later ERP updates. Many high‑volume warehouses prefer Override for stability, then rely on processes to coordinate changes.
How does this setting relate to the change lock tag approach described in the other article?
The Rate Ship Save Override setting defines global behavior (apply vs. ignore updates while shipping).
The change lock tag gives you a targeted way to block updates for specific shipments.
Used together, you can combine a default behavior for most orders with precise locking for high‑risk or complex shipments. Will customer service or order entry teams be notified when their attempted changes are not applied?
No. Rejected changes are logged in the trace, but there is no automatic notification to customer service. Teams should coordinate directly if changes are needed while a shipment is being fulfilled. How long does the lock or protection on an in‑process shipment last?
The protection lasts as long as the shipment remains in the in‑process state governed by your configuration—either while the user has it open in Rate & Ship (for Override) or, for lock tags, as long as the tag remains on the order.
For tag‑based locks, users must remove the tag and save if they want updates to apply. Is it a problem if packing takes several hours or spans multiple shifts?
No. The shipment remains protected while it is in‑process (and/or while the lock tag is present), so updates will not overwrite the work being done, even if fulfillment takes an extended period.Where can I find and change the Rate Ship Save Override setting in Pacejet?
Go to Setup → Application Settings, search for RateShipSaveOverride, and then choose Default or Override in the Rating section. Save your changes to apply the new behavior.
